Character Name: Virus

Character Appearance: Here!
Character Age: 35
Pick A Number: 969 or 696

Canon Setting: Virus is from a video game set in Earth's future, on an island off the coast of Japan. Due to changing water levels of the ocean, the island of Midorijima was created near Southeastern coast of Japan. After people settled on the island, a man by the name of Tatsuo Toue created a corporation by the name of Toue Inc--a company that specialized in researching neurology and brain processes. As Toue Inc's power and reputability grew, as did Toue's influence. As the company grew more powerful and wealthy,  they also expanded to have more control over the island's government and police force.

The technology of the time is rather advanced, with complex artificial intelligence and cutting-edge computers and communication devices. With the advancements in technology and influence over the government, Toue Inc began to further expand their research on the brain, specifically on mind control and brains being impacted by audio and visual stimulation. Part of these experiments included recruiting young children for tests, as well as even creating two twin boys in their lab, who would later be named Sei and Aoba. These two boys held the ability to control people's thoughts and minds, which they could enter and alter as they wished. This power was called Scrap, and was controlled by Sei via his eyes, and by Aoba via his voice. Aoba, however, was lost from the lab, but Toue Inc continued their research on Sei.

Soon after the creation of the two boys with powers, Toue Inc began to cut off ties to the mainland, taking away transportation options and communications outside the island. By separating Midorijima from the mainland, Toue Inc was able to even further it's power, essentially becoming the governmental leaders of the island as well as economic leaders.

Although the experiments of mind control were kept secret from the public, Toue did not stay out of the public eye. Instead, Toue Inc started a new initiative, titled Platinum Jail. The goal of Platinum Jail was to build a large dome over the island, as the city within the dome would have all of the cutting edge, top of the line technology, weather and daylight would be controlled via the top of the dome, and essentially everything within the dome would be under management of Toue Inc. However, not all citizens of Midorijima agreed to live in Platinum Jail, and though there was a fight for it, the group of citizens won their rights to stay in the original homes. The dome was built, but with a residential area of Midorijima remaining the same. Once it was built, the island was divided in half, with Platinum Jail and the Old Resident District.

Although they had succeeded in keeping their homes out of Platinum Jail, citizens in the Old Resident District grew restless, and the area took to more crime. They began a practice called "Ribsteez," which was a term made for when gangs of people would gather and fight turf wars. Teams would leave their tag art on their territory, as well as tattoo it somewhere on their bodies. Most of the younger generations of the Old Resident District joined a Ribsteez team, and those that did not were often harassed. Some of the biggest Ribsteez teams were Dry Juice, Benishigure, Scratch, and Morphine. Morphine, unlike the others, was almost considered an urban legend, due to never actually seeing members of the gang, though they were still regarded as the most powerful.

Though crime in the Old Resident District increased, crime within Platinum Jail was near none, as the citizens were kept happy in a society where they could have and do whatever they pleased. It was a city of night clubs and flashy bars, where there was no responsibilities for the citizens. Meanwhile, unknown to the public, Toue Inc's experiments continued, and they still worked to keep a hold over Old Resident District, keeping control of the police department. Virus, who had been one of the children recruited by Toue Inc in the past, along with his colleague Trip, worked under Toue Inc, as not only bodyguards of Sei, but also as leaders of Morphine. It was while working under Toue under the guise of being Yakuza--or mob members--that Virus and Trip heard of a particular person in the Old Resident District garnering quite the reputation. Upon investigation, the two found that the individual was actually Aoba, who was still alive, and although he did not know about his own powers, he had inadvertently been using his mind control powers via his voice to become a very successful and powerful Rhyme player.

Rhyme is a virtual reality computer fighting game, in which players will enter a virtual reality and fight using mechanical beings called Allmates. Allmates--robotic animals that could be used as a network tool to connect to the internet, which were mostly used as pets--could fight against players using various attacks. Rhyme became very common with younger generations in the Old Resident District. Many of these Rhyme battles would attract crowds of spectators, as well as illegal activity such as betting on the battles or even "drive bys" in which players would pull unsuspecting people into the virtual reality with them. Upon learning that Aoba had been using his voice to be so good at Rhyme, Virus and Trip made him forget the time of his life where he used his powers for Rhyme, and reported to Toue that Aoba was still alive. Upon learning that Aoba was alive, Toue put forth his plans.

Toue invited Aoba to Platinum Jail, and it was upon his arrival that Toue's plans were revealed. Toue planned for using the powers of mind control with Sei's eyes in order to take over the minds of all citizens of Midorijima, and eventually the rest of the world. However, when learning these plans, Aoba set out to stop him. Though Virus and Trip tried to stop him, revealing that they were the leaders of Morphine and tried to forcibly stop his ascension of the tower, Aoba was able to fight off Morphine with help of his friends. Aoba confronted Toue, and they entered a Rhyme battle, where with the help of his Allmate Ren, he was able to defeat Toue and stop his plans. After stopping the potential world takeover, Aoba met Sei, and Sei, who was grateful to him for stopping Toue's plan, caused the collapse of Toue Inc's headquarters, Oval Tower, and with it's collapse the entirety of the Toue Inc corporation came down. Midorijima began to tear down the dome of Platinum Jail, allowing for Platinum Jail and the Old Resident District to be reunited once again.

Character Personality:
BEHAVIOR : Virus is a snake.
He is very diplomatic and very professional. He seems to be a very proper gentleman, upon first meeting him. On first impression, he will sometimes come across as intimidating, mostly due to the much stronger, buffer, and less talkative companion he keeps at his side, but all in all, one will often believe he is a very civilized person. On first impression.

In actuality, he will figure out how others tick, and he use that in his conversations and actions with them, so they will more easily do what he pleases. He acts by gaining the trust of others, and using them how he wishes, even if it means essentially backstabbing those that consider him an ally. He will do whatever is in his best interest, no matter the stakes. He has no ties to any ethical ideas of other people, and will do what he likes. He suffers from feeling very apathetic, towards people, towards the world in general, and this leads him to constantly be on a mission to not be bored. Whatever his idea of entertainment is, whether it is turning people into puppets via the modified morphine drug, or simply enjoying his wine in his study, he will do as he pleases.

BEGINNINGS : To say where Virus' arrogance began is near impossible. Even as a child, he knew he was smarter than most his age, and often found his peers obnoxious and loud. He would spend his time alone, reading books and learning more about the world around him. This behavior followed him from foster care to his recruitment to Toue Inc--of which being a gifted, genius child with no ties to a family gave him the perfect qualifications. He thought of himself as different, and recognized that he was strange to others, but believed it to be because of his intellect and wit, not necessarily his own arrogance. Being recruited for a program that looked for particularly gifted children only made his ego inflate more. Nevertheless, even when brought together with others that were more adept than average children, he was not one for friends, considering the others to be lesser, and instead kept to himself and studying.

ALLY
: At the age of fifteen was when he lost his title of complete loner and gained a follower, someone who seemed to always be in his company, whether he actually wanted him to be or not. That follower came in the form of a young, nine year old red-headed boy that had just been recruited by the name of Trip, who had a nasty reputation of physically beating other children in the program. However--for reasons Virus didn't quite understand--Trip had thought he was different, and decided to follow him around. The younger boy tried to be like him, to the point of sitting next to him at breakfast one day with a badly done blond dye job in attempts to match Virus' hair color. Initially, Virus was annoyed at the young child, but the boy's persistence eventually wore him down to contentment. At times they would talk, and Trip would listen, and it seemed to be a mutual understanding between the two. Virus would lead, Trip would follow. This did not help Virus grow any more trusting of others, but there was something about Trip that made him believe that he could at least trust him. Not only did he seem loyal, but he was useful. Virus knew that although his words could get him far, sometimes brute force was necessary, which made Trip a perfect asset.

When it came time for some of the final experiments at Toue's lab, Virus found himself going first out of him and Trip. His eyes were removed and replaced, and his ears modified, in order to be safe from visual and audio based mind control. With this operation, he--and Trip--would be protected from powers like Sei and Aoba's. With this surgery completed, Virus knew he had a whole new tool at his disposal. Although other children had failed and died with the experiment, he had succeeded, and he knew that with this new power, he could advance much further. Although aloud he'd only say that Trip was a tolerable annoyance, he was able to recognize that the boy was convenient to have around, especially when recovering from the surgery and he was stuck blinded by bandages. Their unlikely partnership continued, and even grew as Virus realized just how useful Trip could be. Trip was force, Trip was power, and Trip was honest. There was nothing to worry about with him, and thus he was okay with the young boy's persistence.

Soon after both of them had completed the surgery, they left the program and were assigned by Toue to their primary task, to bodyguard Sei, the boy created by Toue that could alter minds via eye contact. With the previously mentioned surgery, Virus and Trip were not only safe, but realized that they could potentially hold a lot of power within Toue Inc due to this ability. Virus held no personal qualms with the company, but found himself bored with the tasks they were given. Despite being rather important--watching over the boy that was essentially Toue's weapon for world domination--they grew restless. Virus began to find he was desperate for something interesting to do. Toue's program had left very little moral code in him, watching children disappear if they were unable to complete an experiment or be thrown into solitary confinement for breaking a rule. He decided he needed something to keep him more amused, and watching over a sickly boy who hardly moved was simply not going to be enough.

C17H19NO3 : As an answer to their restlessness, Virus--with Trip--began to work on experiments of their own. With the help of the Toue facility labs and chemicals, the two would often work on their own ways of controlling people. Virus longed for a way of his own to be able to leave people at his disposal, but knew he could not rely on the visual or audio based methods that Toue had perfected. He wanted something of his own, something that allowed him to be in control, not Toue. Thus he and Trip worked on alternative methods than just audio or visual brainwashing, and instead focused on drugs and administration. The two were able to create a modified version of the Morphine drug, which would not only numb it's patients to pain and physical feeling, but also dulling chemicals in the brain to numb thoughts and emotional feelings as well. Those given the drug became their puppets, doing whatever they were told, with only a blank, emotionless stare as an answer.

As the gang activity and turf wars of the Old Resident District continued, Virus and Trip found a perfect opportunity to find test subjects for their new creation. They joined in with "Ribsteez" and created a gang of their own titled Morphine. They created tag art they would put throughout the Old Resident District, throughout other gangs' territories, if only to stir up trouble. When confronted by other gangs, Virus had his time to shine. He would offer them power, spin tales about how if they joined him and Trip, they could be unstoppable. With just a short conversation, he could convince them how much better they would be if they joined Morphine instead (and for who were not convinced by Virus' ploys and way with words, Trip's fists were usually persuasive enough.) After gaining the cooperation of some of the other gangs, they would then get the upper hand by having them injected with the drug, and having their new "gang members" completely under their control. Using these tactics, they not only gathered a reputation of being very strong, but as their members would essentially disappear from their former gangs, there was an almost urban legend reputation of them, creating an idea that those who encountered Morphine would be "spirited away."

With their influence with Toue Inc--which also created influence within government and police forces--as well as their power and reputation growing on the streets throughout the gangs of the Old Resident District, they had control in both districts, both ends of the spectrum of criminals and government. Midorijima was essentially theirs to play with, and this was the way Virus preferred things, with everything in his control. He was a brilliant liar, a great actor, and had a wonderful way with words, and he found others could be bent to his whims because of it. He was the conversationalist, the strategist, the one to use his words to find how people tick, and then be able to use that same information later against them. He was not one for emotions and feelings, but could still recognize how to use other people's to get what he wanted. He was intelligence, cunning, and calculating. Trip was strength, intimidation, and brawn. Together, they were a near unstoppable force.

It was when working with Morphine that they began to hear stories of a rising star of the digital game Rhyme, a boy who seemed unstoppable. From the stories, of the boy being able to "break someone's mind", they went to investigate. This was when they first met Aoba, the other boy created by Toue. Aoba had been using his abilities to rise in the world of Rhyme, as his powers of Scrap--or mind altering--was allowing him to devastate his opponents in the game. Virus and Trip decided to confront him about this, only to realize he was not the boy they expected. He was "cool", he was interesting, he was something new to Virus and Trip. Virus believed him to be very fascinating, and quickly grew to admire Aoba. Aoba was fun, something certainly to keep away the boredom, something to keep his interest.

Aoba was a special case. He admired Aoba's powers, and believed him to be better than the other people he had met in his past. He developed a sort of attraction and obsession with Aoba, as he and Trip both worked to gain his trust and establish his friendship. Aoba became the only person Virus and Trip actually seemed to feel any sort of emotion for, apart from each other, and this led to a feeling of obsession. Aoba was fun, Aoba was interesting, and that meant Virus wanted him. However, this did not stop Aoba from being a victim of Virus' lying and half truths, as they did not reveal who they were to him until their final confrontation at the headquarters of Toue Inc. This represents how Virus' is only out for himself, as even someone as special to him as Aoba was not safe from his lying and backstabbing. He does what he feels is the best for himself, and no matter how trustworthy an ally may be, he will use them until he deems them unnecessary. Their plans to take Aoba from Toue and Midorijima all together were unsuccessful, one of the first times a plan of theirs had proven to be so, and they were forced to let go of their ideal of having Aoba as their own. Due to Virus' apathy, he was able to let go of his obsession, even if there is still some semblance of those feelings still there.

Although his power changed with the fall of Toue and his corporation, Virus did not feel upset. Minor annoyance that his plans to keep Aoba as his own had fallen through, but the rest was taken in stride, even to the point of sending Aoba's companion Ren back to him, instead of using him as a tool to get Aoba back. His enjoyment of power came from the entertainment more than anything, and so while he may not have the amusement of bending people to his will currently, he knows that with the right plans, he has the ability to rise to power again. Until then, he and Trip are simply searching for something else to keep them amused, as there is nothing more they hate than being bored.

AMBITION : Virus feels no sense of moral code any longer. From foster care, to a program in which children would disappear or be broken if they were not good enough, he grew into an idea that one had to be strong to be on top. What he lacked physical strength--which was where Trip's usefulness came in--he made up for in mental, as even in Toue's program he found he could work the system to put him (and Trip) on top. This became the base of his attitude until present day, as he found that with his ambition, his cunning, and his lack of moral code, he could come out successful in most situations he was presented.

Virus knows that he is not a good person, but he also believes that good people do not often get far, and so he feels no remorse. He is stubborn, he can at times be very persistent to get what he wants. When he has a plan, he will keep at it, until it stops entertaining him. He is not afraid to hurt others, even those that he may have gained the trust of, if it means he will come on top in the end.

CHARACTER SAMPLES.
First Person POV:
Here & Here!

Third Person POV:
It was not unbearable, but it was certainly odd

Whenever Trip and he decided to go their separate ways, or spend a day to themselves, it was usually a welcome change from the constant presence of the other. However, he still felt that the space on his left seemed rather empty.

Regardless, this was time for himself, as he can enjoy a simple glass of wine outside on a summer day. It was the deck of his favorite wine bar, eating a small salad and reading a book, and Virus knew these activities were usually not something amusing enough for Trip.

It was when he had just flipped to a new page that a shadow fell over his book. His gaze moved upward slowly to see a waiter, holding a bottle, looking at him with a smile. "Hello sir," The man grinned.

Virus raised a brow. He certainly did not come for chit chat.

"... Yes?"

Suddenly, the waiter sat down at the seat across from him, and the hand that wasn't on his book instinctively went to his coat, where he knew his pistol was hidden. Almost without hesitation, the waiter began to launch into words that Virus had never expected to hear.

Something about a Cosmic Demolition Crew? Blowing up planets? He also heard the word "recruitment" a few times in there. It all sounded rather ridiculous really.

"I'm sorry, I believe you have the wrong person." Virus looked to his book again, his other hand still near his gun.

"No, I'm sure I do not." The waiter shook his head. "I'm sure this all sounds very odd, but believe me when I tell you it is true. The CDC is recruiting people for our upcoming missions, and you're a potential candidate. It's an honor, really. It means your planet will be protected from demolition, as well."

"... So you're a recruiter, and also a waiter." Virus smirked in amusement, glancing at the bottle of wine in the other man's hands.

"Yes, well, not actually a waiter, but I just used this disguise to come talk to you about agreeing to your contract." The man said with a smile. "So, are you in?"

Virus' amusement fell, as did his smirk, and he turned back to his book. "That all sounds very," there is a pause, "interesting, but I have my own things to worry about. So, let me be."

There was silence, a pause, before he heard a sigh from the other man, and movement as he stood. In the periphery of his vision, he could see the waiter move from the seat to stand next to the table again. There was a moment more of hesitation, before the waiter spoke up again. "Can I at least offer you more wine then, sir?"

Virus glanced up only briefly, not fully moving his head, only his eyes. Although this waiter was very odd, perhaps this would all just go back to normal if he allowed him to do his duty.

He moved his wine glass closer. "Yes."

The waiter grinned, and Virus realized his answer was not ideal.

CHARACTER ITEMS.
Pick a Team:
Blue or Red Team
Virus excels in strategics and logistics, as he has spent his life learning how to outsmart others and use his wits to get ahead, as well as how to work with others to accomplish what he wants done. He works very hard towards plans, and puts his pride into his accomplishments. He can be a very good leader, and has often been in the position of a leader role in order to carry out his plans.

Red Team could also be a good match for Virus, especially in setting up diversionary tactics and neutralizing internal threats. Virus is proud of his work, and does not let personal matters get in the way of what needs to be done, making him able to neutralize any internal threats that may need it. He would also be good at diversionary tactics, as he knows good battle strategies and is often able to outwit his opponents.

Reason for Joining the CDC:
Virus may have a bit of an incredulous reaction initially to learning about the CDC, though after learning more about it and having time to be a bit more accepting of his situation, he would actually rather enjoy the mission of the CDC. He would join due to curiosity of what else he could experience, and the fact that life on his own planet had actually grown rather boring.
Mission Freebie:
A collection of encyclopedic books about the CDC, its history, and its policies.
Personal Item or Weapon:
Hersha, his black snake Allmate. An allmate is a mechanically made being with artificial intelligence, each has their own personality, and can be used as a network tool. Allmates are able to access the internet and work as a personal computer, being able to provide directions and event updates. Allmates can be controlled via speech, and so are often kept as pets. Hersha has entirely black scales with blue eyes, though unlike other Allmates, she is set in a silent mode, so she cannot vocally communicate. She is still able to project information as well as send information to other devices.

Character Inventory:
Clothes on his back (full suit, shoes, tie, earrings, glasses, Morphine logo pin), wallet [confiscated], coil (wristband communication device) [confiscated], G41 .45 Caliber pistol  [confiscated], 5.5 inch black street bowie knife [confiscated], one 10 mil bottle of Modified Morphine [confiscated], one capped syringe [confiscated]
